Project Overview
An offline render of an abstract sci-fi scene.
This was made with the procedural tools withing blender at the time of creation.
The metallic structure is a slightly modified torus that has a modifier stack that goes as follows; Unsubdivide (one iteration), Collapse (50%), Wireframe, Subsurf (two levels), Wireframe (thinner size).
These kinds of modifiers are great for adding visual complexity in a non-destructive manner which allows for quicker iteration and testing.
The central orb, is a simple spherical mesh with a material that gives it its volume.
Tropes regarding sci-fi worm holes is the main inspiration for its appearance along with how black holes bend the light around them.
I set the sunlight to be quite overexposed in order to achieve the sci-fi look I was going for.
The background consists of stars and the disc of the galaxy from within.
Neither would be visible in a more realistic render, but I wanted a splash of colour and some texture to make the background look a bit more interesting.
